Beautiful!!  So, the olive wood is an inlay of some sort?  I wouldn't even know how to go about achieving that.

Thank you!! Yes, the olive wood (and the cipress too) is a piece inserted in a cavity in the maple "pages" block, just like an inlay. It is inserted and glued in, so that it protruded slightly. Then, the excess part was leveled and smoothed and worked along with the maple part so that it seems to be "printed" on it

Wow, I am impressed, I have never tried inlay but I imagine something with an organic irregular shape would be ever more difficult.  This is a book worth reading! :)

The two of you have done an incredible job with this piece! The pages are only carved... but they look like real pages that can be flipped open! :omg:
The "illustrations" look hand-drawn, too. It must be really difficult to inset one piece of wood into another and make the surface look so smooth.

Congratulations, you did amazing!
Keep up the good work!

Thank you so much for your kind words! :) The "insertion" part was not so difficult, the most difficult part (the longest) was to carve the pages! Thank you again! :)

I am sure that must have been really difficult as well! The pages look so very real, they look like they can be flipped! :XD:

You and your partner did a really amazing piece of work! :w00t:

Oh my gosh, this is extremely pretty! The craftmanship of the pages is so very stunning, I'm not surprised peolpe tried to turn the pages, the look so real! And what I find most impressiv that you manged to retain the organic shape and feel of the pages and how the paper warps.

That is very unique and impressively realistic: the slight warping of the "paper" and gently curled edges. Beautiful illustrations as well!

Exquisite work all around and always good to see another piece of yours. Well done!

Bellissimo :O :O :O!!!

Veramente, viene naturale il voler sfogliare le pagine per quanto appaiono realizzate in modo realistico :D :D :D !!!

That's beautiful!  So its pages are slices of maple?

Thank you so much! They are just two blocks of maple carved, not slices of wood! Yesterday this piece was at an exibithion and a lot of people tried to turn the pages... but they couldn't!
